Stop IT! Stop Paying!

Stop it! You're paying too much for television. CUT THAT CORD! The first and foremost question I have for anybody is how much TV do you really watch? I mean REALLY watch? If at best its 2 - 3 hours in the evening and your paying 200+ a month in cable fees…you’re nuts. In this day and age! First things first. If you live near the television towers near a metro area you have no excuse. Go to the Walmart or Amazon and purchase an OTA (Over the Air) antenna. You don’t even need a fancy one. They’re cheap. Hook it up…do a channel scan and your jaw will hit the ground. Yes…some places near 50 channels over the air. Free. Just like the old days. Including whatever NFL team is in your area. No money whatsoever.

Now let's get dorky. Take your pick. Roku stick, GoogleCast or FireTV. Go online to get a Firestick or down to Walmart to get a Roku device. It doesn't matter. The journey you are about to go on is nuts. My stepfather’s jaw hit the ground when his TV bill went to under $10 a month. He’s not a sports guy so its easy to do. I prefer the Roku units, my stepfather and mom have Amazon Firesticks. The beauty is it doesn't matter. They run 30 - 100 bucks and you have no service fees ever. Install your device. Connect it to your internet. Go to the channel store and install these channels. All are free and (more importantly) completely legal and legit.

PLUTO TV..this is free television. It has ads and is ad-supported but that just means its TV like the olden days. But it has a built-in DVR and over 200 channels of content. Good stuff like a Perry Mason channel, a Little House on the Prarie channel, Happy Days, I Love Lucy, all running 24 hours a day. It has several news networks. Nutjob ones like MSNBC shows and good ones like NewsMax and The Blaze and OAN. Also a Tosh.0 channel. A Ghost Hunters channel, and tons of movie channels with great movies all uncut….just with commercials. BUT! Most importantly FREE!

TUBI TV…see above but with some slightly different variations. Many of the same channels but some are completely different. Again FREE! And Legal!

Freevee…Amazon’s ad-based free television site. Tons of content!

XUMO…same as above…

ROKU Channel…if you purchased a Roku device you have access to this. And this group is nearing over 300 channels. All Free.

Also if you purchased the Over The Air (OTA) antenna you can get what’s called a Tablo Device that will hook up to the Roku or Firestick and send any shows you record over the Air to the Roku or Firestick.

If you need a true cable replacement with old-school cable channels you also have some choices. SlingTV, YouTube TV and Hulu Live TV run around 40-90 a month and will bring you traditional channels like CNN, ESPN and USA. In my setup we have Sling TV for FoxNews and some cable channels, and all of the free channels, as well as Netflix, Paramount, Hulu and Peacock. Sounds like alot but all of those like Paramount, Hulu, and Peacock we scored for 20 bucks for the year with Black Friday deals. So they add to our selections for very little a month.

When I was a kid in California and money was tight all we had was a giant antenna that would spin around in storms, outside, with a giant pole to direct it. And it would just sorta get some channels. If back then you offered me over 800 channels for free I would have been out of this world happy.

If money is tight in this day and age and you need more funds for things other than TV. Consider this. You have a world of basically free content at your finger tips. Including in many places the local evening newscasts. All for the taking. Look into Roku. Look into Firestick…Stop paying the cable companies.
